Highly colourful and vocal small finch

Status: Resident all year round
Scots Names: Goldie, Goldspink, Gowdspink, Sweet William, Thistle Finch
Size: 13cm
Habitat: Parks, gardens, all types of woodland, scrub and farmland
Breeding: Approx 220 000 breeding pairs, up to 7 eggs, fledging in up to 18 days
Call Note: Musical and liquid warbling twitter, flocks often heard overhead
Food: Insects and seeds, thistles and teasel seeds are readily eaten. Will visit birdtables especially
if there is a thistle (niger seed) feeder.
