Willow Supply - Cuttings, rods & kits

Willow Season CLOSED until late Autumn / early Winter. Bundles of non fresh cut willow (still green) still available. Any remaining bundles will be dried as basket willow and available from mid summer.

Our crop, when it is available and why...............

We had a good growth season and basketmaking willow will again be plentiful
longer size B rods are always more limited so contact early to enquire.

The start of the season is dependant on the weather. The colder the weather, the earlier the season starts
as the leaves drop and the crop becomes dormant and ready to plant. If we get a spell of sustained colder
weather and heavy frosts, the season would likely start earlier. The willow pages will be updated frequently.

How we manage our crop...............

We manage a crop which consists of approximately 70,000 stems in mixed sizes and varieties.
Careful management takes place from the start of the harvest season (usually in Autumn) until probably around
mid May, when there is a lot of clearance to be done following the harvest. Every stem is cut by hand and we
would never ever use power tools or machinery, which in commercial operations is a necessary practice but
can of course split or shred the butt ends of rods. Our crop has been established for approximately 10 years
and we only replenish from within, using cuttings from the crop itself. When you order cuttings or rods or have
a structure installed you can be confident that our willow is a local supply. Only in very few cases over the years
have we had to buy in willow for more specialist installations.

Availability, delivery or collection.............

Limited dried basketmaking willow bundles are available all year round (See prices below)

Live willow rods and cuttings available (November / December to early - mid April)

We can arrange delivery of willow within Ayrshire or possibly surrounding counties (for delivery charge)
if required Collection is always possible and can be arranged from our office or at the crop.

Please contact us if you require courier delivery, many couriers will not take very large length bundles,
though we have used couriers for bundles of 4' - 5' rods.

For more information or to discuss individual requirements please contact us.

Willow is a flexible fast growing material which is perfectly suited to the weaving properties required in making baskets,

East Ayrshire Woodlands manage a willow crop to provide materials for site planting and craftwork, which is harvested
between late November and mid March.
